SPRING Time - Introduction to Debating (10 SESSIONS) Please read "How the Programme Runs" before booking Debate Mate's Debating Sessions focus on building all the fundamental skills necessary to debate using a range of group activities and games, alongside some individual learning. Students are able to practise and develop their ability to generate and construct arguments, listen to others, respond to interruptions and offer constructive challenges. There are several debates built into the course to prepare students for the final debate competition. Debate Mate has a unique (and effective!) approach to debating, so all students who have not taken part in a Debate Mate program start here. Don’t worry, our curriculum is specially designed to push students who have experience to ensure they are appropriately challenged. Lesson Plan One: Get to know your squad and explore ways to skillfully make an argument. Two: Exploring different speaking styles and building an impactful speech Three: The art of structuring a strong and clear argument Four: The art of rebuttal - how to challenge and respond to the arguments of others Five : Full Debate:Students will implement all of the skills developed from the previous sessions by participating in a full formal debate. Six: Stronger! Better! Longer! Improving your arguments by adding analysis Seven: Knock them down - Improving rebuttal Eight: Formal debate Nine: Exploring complex & new ideas Ten: Competition! Students will take part in a competition with a different group of students! How the Programme Runs: -The programme is 10 weeks long with 1-hour sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday. Dates shown are for the weeks the course operates Thursdays 5:30 PM Saturday 9:00 AM or 11:00 AM Wednesdays - 11:00 AM or 5:30PM Once you sign up, we will send you a form to fill in your child’s details and when you want the sessions to run. - However sometimes, your preferred slot MAY NOT be available. Please bear with us, as we try and slot your child in with children of their age and ability to ensure optimal learning -The group sizes are 8-10 to ensure that students receive as much personal attention NOTE: YOU WILL BE ALLOCATED TO SESSIONS AFTER YOU BOOK. SESSIONS ARE ONCE A WEEK = 10 SESSIONS INCLUDED IN THIS BOOKING ONLY. Total available sessions on the website denotes the wide options available to suit your convenience.

Some Rules

To cancel or reschedule, please do so 48 hours before the event for free. Please note that our providers create content for YOU and working hard to make their courses truly magical. We owe them a minimum of 48 hours notice, failing which the full amount of the class is forfeited.
